2018 Wrap Up

As we wrap up the 2018 baseball season  and some of us have already put away our gear and sent our uniforms to the dry cleaners for the winter.  Some of us are getting ready for Fall Ball, or officiating another sport in the fall.

I want to take this time to thank you for your efforts this past season and say a job well done.

I was able to see many umpires work this year and I look forward to seeing most of you work next year as our umpire opportunities will continue to grow.

Two announcements I would like to make.

  • Eric Goldstein and Jay Emery have been appointed to the Scholarship Committee.  Mike Haglund will continue to chair that committee
  • Mark Childs, Rick Newton and Rick Mahan have been appointed to the Ethics Committee along with Jim Groves and Rick Spahl.  Mark Childs will chair this committee going forward.

As we did this past year we will be presenting some rules at the meetings next year.  I will be looking for volunteers to present.  Please contact me if you are interested in presenting a rule.

As I told everyone in May some key areas I would like the organization to focus on:

  1. Mechanics
  2. Rules knowledge (more on that in the future)
  3. Recruitment

With that said our 2019 Umpire class will start on Monday January 7, 2019 at Holy Name at 6:00pm.  Prospective umpires can register here. Please pass this along to anyone you think that would be interested.

We will be sending out regular communication newsletters.  Please be on the look out for these communications.  Also there will be articles related to baseball and umpire periodically posted to our website

Again, thank you again for your service this year and as always please contact me with any questions.
